Plug & Play Cyber Security
Palo Alto Networks' first consumer router delivers out-of-the-box home network security for distributed workforces and everyday users. I joined the project after initial UX and visual design, directing UI refinement, enhancing the overall user experience, overseeing 3D motion design to illustrate router setup, and sourcing an illustrator for onboarding and spot illustrations.
I focused on streamlining complex networking concepts into intuitive flows that worked for both technical users and complete novices. The refined interface made security settings immediately accessible while guiding users through setup without overwhelming them with jargon.
The existing designs scattered critical information across multiple screens, creating confusion around device connectivity and threat protection status. My refinements consolidated these into a unified dashboard with clear visual hierarchy and motion graphics that demonstrated real-time protection activation.
The motion design borrowed familiar patterns from smart home device setup, showing the router's “security bubble” expanding to protect connected devices. Paired with custom illustrations that humanized technical concepts like VPN tunneling and threat blocking, the solution made enterprise-grade security feel approachable for home users.
This work positioned Palo Alto Networks to enter the consumer market with a product that balanced power and simplicity, enabling seamless security for remote workers and households alike.
